What do we want from Council?
What do we want from Council?

The Council works hard for the community. They give up their most precious commodity, TIME, to do this! We thank them for their service and we really hope that we will be thanking them in the future in moving this proposed development somewhere else. Our Committee does not want to make the Council out as our enemy, we just hope they come around to see the Communities position.

Unfortunately none of what has happened so far on this proposed development would boost our confidence in Council to do the right thing for the benefit of the majority of residents when it comes to this decision. The community is not interested in another bricks and mortar trophy at the expense of green space and the community centre. We’d ask council to reflect on what the benefits are of building this proposed development on Municipal property vs. private property to Komoka-Kilworth residents. Please share.

The council saw more comments submitted to the Surplus meeting than any other meeting in this term. The Community had five days to do that. This is a lot less time for community input then a bylaw variance to build a shed closer to the lot line. The decisions around this Development were being rushed and the community knows that. Council and staff know the longer something is out there the more response you are going to get. I think that is a good thing! Having an in person public meeting on this would be very interesting.

Councillor Cates has already made an impassioned plea to her fellow Councillor’s to turn down the staff recommendation on this proposed commercial development on parkland.

We need 3 more Councillors to take the road less travelled and vote NO to making the Komoka Community Surplus and to selling off parkland. This does not stop Council from being cheerleaders for this development; just don’t bury the Community Centre and four acres of parkland under it. With all the current and future growth we should be making the park bigger not smaller. Council should ask themselves that in 10 years will they be sorry this building wasn’t bigger or be sorry that the park is too small.

Council: go ahead and fight to get this Development in the community, just not at the Komoka Community Park. We believe you will get a lot of support from the Community if you take this path.
